A trip to the brain!

In this story my little niece, along with her little cousin, a cat and a dog undertake a wonderful trip to their grandmother's brain to understand what happens there.

There they meet Mr. Hippocampus and see the neuron cells up close. It is a beautiful story, masterfully illustrated by Gustavo Desimone, where children learn that love, patience, and empathy are what their grandparents with cognitive problems need most.

This book also contains a guide that can be very useful for parents and guardians when talking to young children and adolescents about dementia.

Why Does Granny Forget Things? was originally written to help my nephews understand what was happening to their grandmother as she lived with Alzheimer’s disease.

Today, the book has found a new home in the classroom.

It is now being used as part of the educational curriculum at Segunda Unidad David Antongiorgi Córdova in Sábana Grande, Puerto Rico — the first Dementia Friendly school in Puerto Rico — helping children learn about dementia through understanding, empathy and age-appropriate education.
