Mi nombre es Julissa Cruz Gómez, soy médica de origen Dominicano radicada en los Países Bajos (Holanda). Actualmente soy residente de segundo año de la especialidad de medicina geriátrica de primer nivel. Esta especialidad se dedica de forma integral al cuidado del adulto mayor y sus enfermedades crónicas. Esta es una especialidad donde Holanda es pionera!
En esta historia mi sobrinita, al junto de su primito, una gata y un perro emprenden un viaje maravilloso al cerebro de la abuelita para entender lo que allí sucede, Allí conocen al señor hipocampo y ven de cerca las neuronas. Es una hermosa historia donde los niños aprenden que el amor, la paciencia y la empatía es lo que sus abuelitos con problemas cógnitivos más necesitan.
El cuento se complementa con una guía educativa para padres y tutores, donde de una manera más formal y profesional se define lo que es la demencia y su impacto a nivel mundial. Esta cuenta tambien son consejos de como abordar el tema con los niños. La guía esta avalada por la OMS y la Alzheimer’s Association.
Over mij en het boek
Mijn naam is Julissa Cruz Gómez, ik ben een dokter van Dominicaanse afkomst, gevestigd in Nederland. Ik ben momenteel een tweedejaars resident van de specialiteit ouderengeneeskunde. Deze specialiteit is volledig gewijd aan de zorg voor ouderen en hun chronische ziekten. Dit is een specialiteit waar Nederland een pionier in is!
In dit verhaal onderneemt mijn nichtje, samen met haar neef, een kat en een hond, een prachtige reis naar het brein van hun grootmoeder om te begrijpen wat daar gebeurt, daar ontmoeten ze meneer Hippocampus en zien ze de neuronen van dichtbij. Het is een mooi verhaal waarin kinderen leren dat liefde, geduld en empathie is wat hun grootouders met cognitieve problemen het hardst nodig hebben.
Het verhaal wordt aangevuld met een educatieve gids voor ouders en verzorgers, waarin op een meer formele en professionele manier wordt beschreven wat dementie is en zijn impact op mondiaal niveau. Dit bevat ook adviezen over hoe je het onderwerp met kinderen mag benaderen. De gids wordt onderschreven door de WHO en de Alzheimer's Association.
About me and the book
My name is Julissa Cruz Gómez, I am a doctor of Dominican origin based in the Netherlands (Holland). I am currently a second year resident of the specialty of elderly care . This specialty is fully dedicated to the care of the elderly and their chronic diseases. This is a specialty where Holland is a pioneer! In this story, my niece, along with her cousin, a cat and a dog, undertake a wonderful journey to the grandmother's brain to understand what is happening there. There they meet Mr. Hippocampus and see the neurons up close. It is a beautiful story where children learn that love, patience and empathy is what their grandparents with cognitive problems need the most. The story is complemented by an educational guide for parents and guardians, where in a more formal and professional way what dementia is and its impact on a global level are defined. It also give advices on how to approach this subject with children. The guide is endorsed by the WHO and the Alzheimer's Association.
